Jamie Grayson, also referred to as "The Baby Guy NYC" was hilarious! He blows me away with his knowledge of baby gear, and you can ask him a question on just about any baby product out there, and he will give you an honest review about it! His q&a session was standing room only! I didn't think someone could love baby gear more than myself! :)
Abby Theuring, also known as The Bad Ass Breastfeeder was also there. She is a momma blogger from Chicago who spoke about dealing with people that feel entitled to a sense of authority over you and how you parent and how you need to take back the authority. You are the one and only authority over the decisions made for your child, and don't let anyone, even your doctor convince you otherwise.
Another was, Dr. Jay Gordon who is an amazing pediatrician who supports attachment parenting and extended breastfeeding. After listing to him speak, I wish there was a ped like him in every city!
Other speakers included, Hector Cruz from project breast feeding, Kimberly Simon from mama by the bay, Suzanne Barston from fearless formula feeder, and Bunmi Laditan from the honest toddler. There were also workshops about skin to skin and kangaroo care, cloth diapering, babywearing, baby sign language, car seat safety, ppd, etc. Everything was so informative and its too bad that there isn't a way to attend every single event scheduled in the day.
My most highly anticipated and favorite speaker of the day was, Alanis Morissette. She was incredible. Listening to her speak about her struggles with post partun depression and the key factors of attachment was empowering. For the female musician that you idolize as a teenager to be sitting in the same room as you and talking about how challenging becoming a parent is, even for a "celebrity", is very humbling. |
The vendor area was filled with some awesome stuff. Anything from cloth diapers to strollers and car seats and everything in between. I bought the awesome Nuroo Nursing scarf which is an infinity scarf that you can unfold and use as a nursing cover. Don't let nursing your baby be a fashion faux pas. :) I also bought a Mommy-con T-shirt! |
I hope to attend more Mommy-con events in the future, and I hope Brian can attend with me. Another even will be taking place in Newport Beach in November.....we just might have to make a little vacation out of it next fall!
