Baby Gavin turned 1 at the end of October. Man, time has flow by this past year! We celebrated him with family at our house. It was the last family gathering of this kind that we will ever have here. :( I didn't think about it during the party. I wouldn't have been able to hold it together if I had. Something special that I have done for each of the boys is a wish box. I got the idea from a co-worker before Landen's first birthday. Since I am all about sentimental things, I thought it was a brilliant idea. You set up a box at your child's first birthday, or any early birthday for that matter, and ask the guests to bring something for them to open on their 18th birthday. The gift could be a story, a wish, a song, poem, photo, book, etc. It becomes a beautiful little time capsule for the child. Knowing that 18 years from now, their great grandparents and possibly others will no longer be with us, it's a way to have a piece of them for your grown child. Some people seal them up after the party, though I haven't and continue to add little things here and there. I hope it means as much to my boys when they are 18 as it does me. Being the first birthday, Gavin had to have a smash cake! Of course, since he has a sensitivity to dairy, that prevented me from ordering a super cute one from the bakery. I had to whip one up with non-dairy ingredients. It turned out to be a very delicious cake. I made it into the shape of a football, hence the ND theme. It turned out cute and he loved it. The recipe is on the delightful dishes page. We are so blessed to have spent the day with our close family! We love each and every one of you and are so grateful to have you in our lives! Thank you for sharing Gavin's day with us! A special thank you to my mom and mother-in-law for helping out with food as you always do! It's a tremendous help and is always so tasty!
